Do you want to cook dinner and charge electronics anywhere when you’re camping, with just a handful of kindling? You do? Ok, let us introduce you to the BioLite Camping Stove.
If you haven’t heard of the BioLite Stove we guarantee you will soon. It’s truly one of the most innovative camping products we’ve seen in years. In fact we think its right up there with solar technology! We also believe it’s going to change the face of renewable energy for camping, as not only is it incredibly clever but it’s affordable too.
So why are we this impressed? Well, because it’s a camp stove that burns hot and clean while using very little fuel and charges your gadgets at the same time, all while reducing your carbon footprint.
Yes, you did read that correctly… it does actually charge your gadgets while you cook your dinner!
Wow! Ok… take a breath… calm down… yes it is exciting isn’t it… but we haven’t told you the best bit yet!
It generates clean heat, clean energy and has been developed both as a camping and home stove to help save millions of lives tragically lost through smoke inhalation each year and contributing towards climate change. The design cuts smoke emissions by up to 95% and CO2 by 91% while simultaneously providing users with the capability to charge mobile phones and LED lights.
ARTICLE UPDATE: A BioLite CampStove review and suppliers for the UK…. at last!
The BioLite team explain:
Open wood fires are inefficient, wasting potential energy and creating toxic smoke due to incomplete combustion. Carefully designed stoves that use fans to blow air into the fire can dramatically improve combustion. However, such stoves require small amounts of electricity to power their fans and most people who cook on wood are without grid or battery access.
BioLite stoves solve this problem by converting a fraction of the fire’s thermal energy into electricity to power our combustion improvement system. Excess electricity is made available to users for charging small electronic devices such as mobile phones, LED lights, GPS and many others.
So don’t simply think about what the BioLite Stove can do for you as a camper… think about what it can do for the world!
YES IT’S THAT BIG!
Ok, here are the (fantastic) details:
- Powers most USB-chargeable devices including smartphones, LED lights, GPS and many others.
- Fast to boil.
- Lights quickly and easily.
- Burns sticks, pine cones, pellets and other biomass.
- Folds for easy packing.
- Packed size: 8.25 x 5″.
- Weight: 2 Lbs 1 oz / 935 grams.
- MSRP $129 circ £80
Only available from BioLite Stoves so if you want one you might find there’s a bit of a waiting list!
Have a look at this information video from BioLite about the technology and how and why the idea was formed to create it.

ARTICLE UPDATE: A BioLite CampStove review and suppliers for the UK.

Wow ..what a brilliant idea. Instant heat and power…I want one.
Yep… we’re in the queue ahead of you!
This is a fantastic idea – what a concept! I wonder how long I’ll have to wait to see one at a campsite near me?
Not long… they are proving to be very popular… there’s already a waiting list!!
The future is here!!!! Can’t wait to get my BioLite camp stove!
You’re not wrong! We’re very excited about what the next few years could bring in terms of new technology. Also, we’d welcome a review of the Biolite stove if you want to contact us again once you have it and have had a chance to test it out. Sarah
Awesomeness! I want one now – haha. Thanks for sharing.
We need on ein every hut!! THey’re amazing!! Well done inspired camping
There’s a bit of a waiting list… and we’re in the queue in front of you *smile*
Are there places that gives discounts when purchased
Sadly no.. they are only available from the link given at full price. There’s a long waiting list so I’m sure they won’t be discounting it any time soon.
What a fantastic idea! I’m actually pretty excited about this. I just wish there was a UK distributor as the $50 shipping charges (excluding VAT and import taxes) really does hike (excuse the pun) the price up substantially. Regardless of this I still think it would be such a benefit having one.
It seems like new orders are shipping mid-July now too so it’s not too long to wait to receive one.
Definitely… a UK distributer would be sweet. Are you considering ordering one? If so we’d love you to do a review of it for us *smile*
Very very tempted. I’ve got a list of people who would be interested in them so I’ll see if I can get a bunch of us together to order them in bulk to try and sweeten the UK delivery.
If I get one then I’d be happy to do an in-depth review for you
Sounds fantastic! You may want to mention you’ll be doing a review of it here when you negotiate the delivery charge. It might help sweeten the deal. Let us know how you get on…
Did any of you guys get one in the UK?
If so, what were the shipping and customs cost?
Updates would be much appreciated!
best

A BioLite CampStove review and suppliers for the UK…. at last!!!

I just bought one at REI. I am loving it! I also bought the grill attachment. I just cooked dinner with tree debris in the yard. It had no problem topping off the charge on my cheap cell phone. My daughters love it for making s’mores. It does smoke until it gets going, but it doesn’t take long for the fire to really get going. You have to feed it pretty regularly, but it is sticks and twigs after all. So far, I am really happy with it and would highly recommend it.
That’s good to hear. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Sarah
